Meditation #65: Monotasking is the new multitasking.

Multitasking is anathema to mindfulness. When you’re doing more than one task at the same time, you’re not being mindful about either of them. You may be able to get more things done, but you will probably be less satisfied with the results.

This doesn’t just apply to high-powered CEOs and people who read self-improvement books. Even something as simple as getting in and out of your car almost always (by default) involves multitasking. Be deliberate in every action you take, even if the action is just “picking up this mug.” Pay attention to the muscles you’re using, to the way your body twists, and to what your mind is doing.

Don’t have your mind and body in two places at once; that’s the essence of mindfulness.
